Well spring...is over and now summer is here and since school is out i finaly have time to fix up the rest of the rust on my rig.

Hood is painted and waiting for install.. Fender needs hit with a wire wheel and repainted..

Now for the only part that I can NOT figure out how to install.

The L shaped trim on the rear sliding windows have compltely boggled my mind.

I have pieces from a junk hard that have been painted and are ready to go on but how the heck do i get them on there??

Someone please explain this to me..lol

Also I have an idea...Has anyone ever tried mounting first gen truck fenders to a first gen runner? How diffrent do they bolt up or are they shorter or longer? I think it would look pretty good on a first gen runner with those rounded fenders

I'm still trying to figure out how you remove the black trim piece (the one with the 4runner logo) that's in front of the L-trim.

 

You don't have to remove the trim piece to remove the window. Take all of the trim out of the inside of the cab, including the "rubber" type trim around the window. Take a box cutter and start cutting the window sealant. This will take a long while and it's not fun. Make sure you have a friend who can catch the window when you finally cut/push through.

To reinstall, buy window glue/sealant from the autobody store, clean up both surfaces and follow instructions on can. Make sure you tape the window in place for 24+ hours.

Not hard, just time consuming.

 

"Easy as Pie" or "This will take a long while and it's not fun."???

 

with a heat gun for those who DIDNT REALLY READ IT ... BOTH windows took us 1/2 hour ... easy as pie .

 

ook So yesterday me and my stepbro set out to do this. He is an autoglass guy so he knows what hes doing...Anyways we started with the heatgun and it didnt really work well and made everything hot as crap. We pulled out the trim that goes around the window. The trim that exploses the bolts to remove the top, and the braided looking trim that goes around the window. He took an angled razor blade and cut the butyl while i pulled on the window and it was out in two minutes tops. The window frames on one side were so rusty we broke them apart by hand to get the glass out. The other side we had to sawzall to get the glass out...

I do not understand how the junkyard got the glass out of the window frames...its near impossible.

Anyways getting the glass back in is also pretty hard.. You just have to put one end of the glass in and pull the frame apart and pop the other side into place...it is a two person job.

The frames and the roof were cleaned and new butyl was applied to the window and we reinstalled them. It rained later that night and I have no Leaks


Overall I think this took us 1.5 hours to do all of this. VERY easy project with two people and basic tools. This is a part thats rust on may of our rigs and when its replaced it makes a big diffrence in overall apperance.


Things to not forget:
Save the screws to reattach the new L-Trim
New Buytl to reattach the window.
Lots of angled Razer blades with some kind of handle attachment
