Hello everyone. This is my first post, so I apologize in advance for screwing it up if I do so. I have an 86' Toyota Pickup (with carb) and it has a fibreglass box. I got it as a grad present and they bought it off someone who had these things done to it already. The truck also came with a metal tailgate, at the moment my truck does not have a tailgate on, and i've been asking around to see if I could put the metal tailgate on the fibreglass box. So far I only have one suggestion, and that is to take off the tail lights and put a piece of metal behind the fibreglass and put holes in the metal and thread the hole. Then put a whole in the fibreglass and bolt it into the metal so the tailgate is not pulling on the fibreglass but instead pulling on the piece of metal. Would this work and does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.

 

id PM a member on here named Slacker... he builds custom fiberglass beds for these trucks and would prolly be the most knowledgeable about it...

if it's one of our beds , you shouldnt have to put any steel in it .. The vertical piece your talking about , is layered with kevlar , and then layered again where the innerwall is joined . tested up to 500lbs .

 

Hmm, ok then. Is there any way to know if it is one of your beds? And if it isn't one of your beds, do you know of any other ways to do this?
