You guys are hijacking White Rob's thread. Seriously - did we answer the man's question to his satisfaction?

Keep in mind that fender flares do more than protect the body. My tires stick out maybe 1/4" and fling rocks onto my windshield (new) when driving on gravel roads, so now I'm considering fender flares. Now my new windshield doesn't look so new anymore

Cheers

those limited flares would be his best bet really as im sure spending big coin on the bushwackers isnt worth it for 1/4 inch.

lol at waterworld, possibly for gold mining but not sure. It felt really creepy being on that thing. im hoping to maybe drink afew beers while sitting in a lawn chair on it this summer.

Cheaper Option Look for Pacer Performance Flexy Flares,
You can get anywhere from 1" to 3" Cheap and EXTREMELY durable, Im using the steal reinforced ones

If you are looking for only a 1/4 inch, then try and find some of the chrome wheel well trim, it was stock on alot of 3rd gens, but it also came on 3rd gen trucks (mine has it) i don't know about 2nd gen 4runners, but if I've got it on my truck, it should fit on a 4runner,

if you don't know what I am talking about, here is a how to on painting the trim things:

if you find it at a junk yard, they probably will be the cheapest solution, other than just getting some flat rubber and screwing it to the fenders

thanks very much 4Hummer

I have been lurking along here -I am a 3rd gen but I will never pay $300 and up for some plastic fender flares-I am most appreciative of that product name
and the Whitney link. I don't want the Surface Mount kind(not sure how to mount those and do not want the rubbing on the body) but the Steel Reinforced or Standard Duty models look to me like they would work fine to screw into pre-exsting holes inside the lip of the wheel wells.

My '99 SR5 has that chrome strip trim along the wheel wells and my body is sprayed constantly with road moisture. I am running the 265/75/16s with factory mudflaps.
