Father daughter project.

Father daughter project.
My daughter has always liked the Toyota pickup from Back to the Future. So, my neighbor bought one for his son to drive through school, then when he got out, he would fix it up and keep it for a Home Depot truck. Well, the motor had problems, so he put on a head and other items and got it running again. Then the engine blew. So, new 22RE, not a rebuild, new. It's been sitting for seven years now with a brand new engine in it and never fired up. Not even put back together. I know this is going to be up hill, but I think we will learn a lot along the way. She is 19 and I'm 54. Should be fun. The truck is a 1986 Toyota SR5 Extra cab 4x4 with an automatic. I have never seen an automatic in a 86 SR5 4x4. I'm hoping some of you might give us some feedback on some tricks and ideas on what to look out for. She would like to put on a set of 33".
Thanks for your time.

welcome. plenty of automatic trucks out there and plenty of info on them here at yotatech. I believe martys truck was an 85, solid axle but close enough. I hope you saw the recent Bring a Trailer auction of the BTTF replica for 58k

No, i didn't, but sounds awesome. Will have to look for it. Yes, planning on an inventory day have everything in the truck since it's pretty much all apart. Thank you for the welcome

Welcome!
I taught my middle daughter how to do the basics of maintenance on my Toyota pickup, starting when she was 16. Even taught her to drive in it, and now she won't drive an automatic transmission.
I loaned it to her to use while she was in the Marines. She lately called me for a chat, she's over 40 now, and demanded that I keep the truck, and pass it on to her when I go away. She said it such a classic, and such a part of our family, that I may NOT sell it.
Good luck on your project! Good to see more women involved in actually working on the trucks, not just driving them.
