Fast Idle Non Existent on 86 Truck

Hi Folks

Own a 1986 Toyota Truck sr5 4wd efi. 22re
My fast idle speed has seemed to have disappeared.
No issues in starting, but it goes to 750rpm immediately,
without giving me a fast idle first

Any idea on where to start troubleshooting

Thanks
Jim

Look into your IACV, there should be a good thread about troubleshooting it and adjusting it, I'll see if I can find it.

It's related to the auxiliary air valve. There's a passage in the throttle body that diverts air to this valve and it can plug up overtime. Remove the hose going to the valve and clean out the passage. If the hose is not removed from the throttle body, cleaner will enter the heater to the valve and short it out. These are NLA!!!

Check all of the vacuum hoses going to and from the valve for cracks, they generally appear near the fittings. Lastly, remove the electrical connector from the back of the valve and ohm out the heater. If it measures open, its toast. Good luck finding a good one, they're very difficult to come by now.

Thanks for the input. Dismantled IAVC and throttle body from engine and cleaned. Replaced all the vacuum lines and coolant lines and clips. Checked ohms and opening on IAVC. Put it back together..

It Idles

Well....

Not sure

I live in CA and I would think my fast idle would be round 1500 rpm. On first start in morning it is only around 1000 rpm then drops to normal at 750rpm
I could have sworn my fast idle should be up there. After driving the truck for 34 years you would think I would know eh ?

It starts. it runs and it idles. I can live with it. What else is there to check ?

Thanks
Jim

That's the one! Sorry, I'm a bit of a burnout, every time I say "I'll find that thread for you!" I promptly forget about it and get distracted by the next new thread..

Thanks for the link

I read that link full of info. That IACV was really bad. Mine was way better than that one in the pics. Anyway, it says fast idle around 1000-1100 rpms, I guess mine is good because that is where my fast idle is. Just thought it would have been higher.
Thanks again for your input and time on this. Have a great New year....
