Fan clutch rebuild?
The past 3 runs i have been on my truck has run supper hot! Almost over heated when i was on trail and driving to the trail. Over the winter i replaced waterpump,termistat,radiator,all the hoses.
Heres what makes me think i need a new fan clutch. When the trucks off you can spin it almost freely. when the trucks running cold you can stop it spin it the other way and it will catch up. normal temp its about the same as just started. when the truck is ready to over heat or is starting to you can still stop it spin it and it takes a while to catch up. It used to make noise when the truck as getting warm(cant discribe it but im sure you guys know the sound) and now it doesnt. Is this the issue? could i have another issue?
Can i rebuild this one? I have a friends motor torn apart in the way of my spare parts to see if i even have another to try so if i can rebuild it real quick i will give it a shot.
Im tired of hangin everyone up on a run or even out screwing around. I just got over a starter problem that only wouldnt work at altitude. It seems like this si the same cause i daily drive it and dont have the same issue

mine is going out too. Is it worth it to buy a new one or is going electric worth the hassle? Reason I say hassle is a buddy of mine went electric at less than 100K and replaced the electric fan 3 times in 80K miles before he sold it. Too bad its not rebuildable...

Your description of the lack of fan sound when the engine is hot it is damn good evidence of the fan clutch being bad. snap-on is correct.. they cannot be rebuilt. My fan clutch went out at roughly 190K. I just replaced it with a new toyota part. I recall it being a bit pricey, something over $100.

there are plenty of write-ups on the net dealing with how to rebuild them by replacing the silicone fluid in them. The dealer can special order the fluid, it comes in 1 ounce bottles and normally takes 2 to 3 bottles to complete it.
That being said it is probably less stressful to replace the whole unit with a new one, or electric.

the electric one is pissing me off. I think i figured out my timing got bumped some how. I timed it lastnight and it was way off. Maybe that will help.

If not consider upgrading radiator or going with a colder stat, Im running a newer radiator and flex fan in my truck, no problems, even on mountain trails in 4 lo and high rpms sometimes
