exhaust problems..

well my day started out great. i got outta school and headed straight to the muffler shop to get me a new exhaust put on.my gf gave me the money for our 2yr anniversary. i had a flowmaster 40 with stock (i think 1 3/4) on it to begin with. but it sounded stock and i wanted somethin a littel louder, im still a youngin so dont flame me. anyways i got a magnaflow hi flow cat, with 2.25 inch pipe comein off of it dumped about 4 inches in front of the back axel. its sounds AWESOME. i knew it would sound better but didnt think it would sound as good as it does. my bro used to have a 4.3 s-10 straight piped with a gutted cat and it sounds just like it did. theres no ricer sound whatso ever. but its LOUD. to loud. but ill get to the point.. i got a ticket. 5 hours after i had it put on. im little mad. so it looks like it wont sound good anymore.

That sucks. I hate dumped exhausts, they resonate off the underside of the truck and vibrate your brains out!

chop off the dump and run it straight back under your rear bumper. It'l sound MUCH better and the law will be happy..

Well It depends on your local laws. Here you need a muffler, but people get away with it when their exhaust is done right (full length and no leaks).

Adding the extra tube will quiet it down a little, and it will change the note some. I would probibly throw a glasspack on it to keep johnny law happy...

I did the exhaust on my girlfriends 22re 4runner. I put a glasspack on and then left it dumping out right at the axle. Man, that thing was almost unbearable! I fitted a tailpipe and it sounds great!
And call me crazy if you will, but after I got the tailpipe into place (1 3/4") I swear, it had more low end power. Like seat in the pants power. Didnt resonate like a tin can anymore aswell

If you want loud then keep the 2.25" pipe, but I would probibly go with 2" to keep things flowing good...

well one could cut the downpipe and route the two pipes to converters and mufflers and then it would have a nice 'lope' to the engine sound.

Im not the kind to do exhaust work if it hurt my performance

I think a 1uz tucked under the hood single 2.5" into dual 2" pipes out the back will growl nicely

dead serious. it sounded like or close to my bros old 4.3L it was loud.. and didnt sound like a 22re. it may of jsut been me. but it felt like it had alot more bottom end with the glasspack and 2.25 all the way out then when it jsut had the cat and 2.25 dumepd before the axle

You need the back pressure for torque.

what i do with glass packs is cut it in half, take the packing out, re weld it back together, dump some used oil in it and burn it to burn out any excess packing. If you want more to come out of it spray water inside of it after burning the oil. It will crack the inside grates.
