I think you NEED the back pressure that an exhaust provides. People on here say to put no larger than a 2.25" exhaust system on or you loose torque. Bigger exhausts(also no exhaust) reduce back pressure and can make more top end horse power but torque is what's needed for 4wheeling not HP.

well since this guy just had to get a quiet exhaust, i imagine he's doing it for the obnoxious noise...not for any hp gains lol..

i dont think anybody on here has used em on the toyota's lol, but they're simple to install (just weld em on...weld your exhaust on, wire it up..and continue to piss people off LOL

Installing them should just be a matter of interrupting the pipe(s) where you want to install them, welding them in and wiring them up, and probably installing some sort of exit pipe(s) so the gasses get clear of the body of the truck.
Depending on your preferences, like a nitrous system, you could wire in a switch to enable their operation, and micro-switch to actually activate the cutout(s) when the throttle goes over 1/2-3/4 open.

Having said that, I see no purpose in doing so. Unless you plan on operating WOT at redline in a drag race somewhere, the engine needs most of the exhaust system in place to help with scavenging. Also, spark arrestors are required in most state and federal parks, which the muffler on the vehicle just happens to meet the requirements for, therefore an open exhaust may be illegal where you're at.

Ya Camo your right. i miss having a loud exhaust so much and was hoping that putting the cut-outs will let me choose when i want to run straights and when i dont. But i noticed that most people put them on right where the exhaust begin so would it be possible to put it farther back like behind my cat???

yep..you can put em anywhere you want bascially..in fact..you could run the cutout..and have your stock exhaust...AND then have your choice of a different muffler welded onto the cutout! lol

well i had a full 2.5" exhaust ran including a hi flow cat and 8" glasspack but since i got the tickets i had to put some cheapo muffler on. So the electric cut-outs are 100% selectable right???

Haha I hate this misconception....exhaust is about flow velocity more than anything. If you increase the pipe size you are actually decreasing the speed at which the exhaust gasses flow. It is easy enough to assume that bigger is better (bigger pipe can fit more exhaust through it right?) but the lower velocity hinders performance. That is where the myth of back pressure required came from I think. Someone put a big exhaust on, lost power and thought hmm that exhaust took away backpressure and now I lost power...He put 2 and 2 together and got 3 the silly boy.

Sure back pressure comes into it, but it is a negitive effect...something you should try to avoid. Generally speaking small pipe = good at low revs (the gasses move very quick and back pressure is not obstructing the flow. The same pipe at high revs is a different story...The gasses are still moving quick but there is not enough pipe for it all to fit in. Back pressure is very high and performance loss is noticed.

Finding the perfect exhaust is about matching it to where you want your power band.

ohh wait a second....nevermind you won't be able to run a muffler off of the cutout, because it has a plate that opens up..meaning you can't weld anything to it because it moves...sorry to get your hopes up dude LOL

heck just run the cutout, i think it'd be awesome!! LOL!!!

sorry, i like to piss people off..especially when they rev their big chevy up, then i open up the cutout and rev mine LOL!! they think i gots a big ol' nasty V8 LOL

I TAKE THAT BACK...

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/QT...-225/?rtype=10

looking at that, it looks like you could bolt up another muffler/glasspack of your choice.

ok Camo one more question, i was looking at those cutouts you posted from summit, they say that bolt up to a manual cutout,so does that mean i would have to get one of those and bolt the electric one to it?

Yes. You get one these and bolt this on in place of the plate. Then you can get that "old tractor with a blown-out muffler" sound any time you want.

Here in California it it illegal to have a cut out. You will also fail visual on smog. And that being said, I drive two 22RE's that are both loud, and they are annoying after a while.
