Exhaust

I recenty swaped all of my toys from my 95 runner to my 92 toy and sold the 95. I didnt take the exhaust with me though and need to upgrade the new truck.

I had the downey header and a flowmaster 2.25" with no cat. The only thing I know for sure is that I am keeping a cat on the 92. I really like the performance and sounds from the downey header. It wasnt ceramic coated, but I am thinking of going ceramic on this one.

So here are my questions, what header do people have and what do you reccommend?

LCE and Downey are highly looked upon and are good for gains in the mid-high rpm range.
NWOR makes a Tri-Y design, stainless steel, but I think you can get them coated. Good for the low to mid rpm ranges, and people like the headers, but Customer Service is a pain.
Thorley makes a Tri-Y as well, and people like those as well.

I'll be ordering some NWOR headers soon, and am going to get them ceramically coated. I'd go with LCE, but I'm looking for more low end then mid-high.

LCE does look like a good header, proablly better than the downey and about the same price.

I refuse to purchase anything from NWOR, in my opinion the have the worst policies and customer service of any company I have purchased from.

Thanks for the responces.

just to let you know, the LCE v6 3.0 header is made by downey.
I spoke with LCE last week and specifically asked about it.

Thorley said that their 2nd Gen header is based on the original TRD design.
(same mold)

check out the Thorley header/Jardine exhaust combo.
that's the one that I decided on finally because I was advised that the downey exhaust sounded more high pitched.

I will let you know what I think and take many pictures once I get it installed.

good luck

Here is the 95 in its old state, as of about a year ago, and the 92 in its current state.

The downey, LCE, and thorley are all priced about the same, so the question is which is better, tri-Y or 4:1, I know the 4:1 provides good all around results. So has anyone used both?

Is it just me or is there a better way to get pictures into a post, at least at a decent size?

This is what Thorly said about their 22RE header

"These are very similar to the TRD header except for the fact that TRD specs out cast flanges and we use billet steel. The header is designed for mid to upper RPM but is still a vast improvement at low rpm."

I love my Thorley headers. And I got the improvement in the mid to high as Thorley stated, the low end performs well also...I think I said in another post I didn't like the sound well that was because I had a little leak and I fixed it and now it sounds great. Just my humble opinion I would go with the thorley's.

Downey has "Call" for damn near every price on their website. They could have saved time by putting "Call" in two inch letters on the homepage. If I wanted to call, I wouldn't be on the website.

I have no idea why companies do this.

Because they are lazy and/or technically inept when it comes to computers

I just got off the phone with Downey. There header is designed to give the best gains in the 2-3K range. They use a smaller primary to boost TQ, and to allow for a 2 1/2" exhaust vs the 2 1/4 most run. Not to discredit them, but who has run this combo? How does it work in the low rpm on the trail range. I have had their header and loved it, but I had it with a 2 1/4 flowmaster.

Also does anyone have their cermaic coated header? I want to know if its coated inside and out, Downey didnt know.

They said that all the prices were wrong and the website was too out of date. They are in the process of making a new one, but I doubt it will be hi-tech enough...I told him how annoying it was to have a useless website.

I know that there are a good group of people that dislike NWOR, but it's not because the product sucks right? It's because the of the customer service correct? I know a couple people that have ordered from them and not had any troubles. I understand that it does happen, but I'm just double checking that the product isn't a bad one and would be good for Low range.

Headers will help regardless threw the range over stock anyways right?
