Exhaust

1988 4runner 22R-E

Just replaced the tube on my exhuast from that goes from the manifold to the muffler, hooks up to the flange on the manifold. I got all the bolts in and tightened up. I just started it and it appears to be smoking around the flange area. I dont think it is exhaust cuz it has a weird smell. Can anyone elighten me?

Did you put two new donut gaskets in there when you installed it? Was the new pipe coated with any kind of oil to keep it from rusting? If so, that is probably what you are smelling and it should burn off eventually.
