Enlighten me

Hey looking to purchase a 88 pickup with a trd cam and newly rebuilt engine anyway I've owned an 87 carb never EFI but I test drove it and it makes a whistling sound when accelerating (almost like a turbo but there is not one) and then goes away when cruising is that normal? Just sounded strange to me. And the truck is completely stock besides the cam.

Does it have an aftermarket intake, or the stock airbox?

Was the radio on and the volume low?

Probably a long shot but I've had a few vehicles over the years that would give a turbo-ish sound through the speakers while accelerating. Some kind of electronic interference I guess.

Could have been the fan clutch acting weird....

Or, could be missing part of the intake in the air filter housing. My '95 22re had the pipe in the bottom of the box taken out and makes a whistle noise at certain RPMs.
