engine/tranny dropped in together?

I am changing the engine in my 94 22R with MT. It was a major PITA to decouple the tranny from the engine before I pulled the engine. The shop manual says that they can be pulled, and re-installed together, but I didn't think that I could it with my limited hoist height, so took them apart for removal.

Because I fear major hassles trying to align the MT and the engine after engine installation, I am considering bolting them together outside the truck and dropping them in as one unit. I figured it might be worth dealing with the extra headaches to preclude the under-vehicle jockeying of the MT. For example, I was considering taking of the wheels to get the nose of the truck lower to give me the extra working height.

Is it reasonable to think that I can install the engine/MT as a single unit? If so, are there tips on doing it?

If you already have them seperated just put them in that way.....

Stabbing the tranny isnt that hard if you have the correct tools.....Ive done it by myself a few times.....

The only bolts that are somewhat difficult to get in are the top 2 bellhousing bolts....a couple long extensions make short work of it though

The top two bolts are actually quite easy with a long extension and the back of the transmission/transfercase lowered a bit on a jack.

Thumbs up brilliant

Thanks a billion. 3 feet of extention and a swivel and bam bolts are out. Add laptop station to must have tools. I didn't even have to lower the tranny
