Engine swap

I am about halfway through a motor swap into my '91 pickup. It originally had the 3.0 6 cyl but i am putting a 22RE out of a yota i totaled about 4 weeks ago. I was wondering if it was possible to get out of swapping the wiring harness for the interior of the truck. I am not sure if it will plug into my computer or not. Some help w/ this would be greatly appreciated before i go to tearing the dash out of this truck. Thanks

You are aware that the motor mounts on the frame have to be moved (welded), right?

i have already welded new motor mounts and i am using the transmission and driveshaftes from the 22RE. I was told that i would have to swap out all of the interior wiring harness and gauges out of the 6 cyl truck and put the 22RE harness in it. I am trying to figure out if there is any way around this before i tear the dash apart. I would have never taken on this project if i had known it would be this much trouble. i would have just dropped a 4.3 in it.

if you get the wiring diagrams for both you can make you're own harness, thats what i did w/ my 7MGTE. Takes a solid afternoon but its worth it. If you are looking for the bare minimum theres only about 6 wires you HAVE to use.

Is the 5 speed from the v6 the same as the one from the 22re? And if it is are the bell housings interchangeable? Is the v6 bell housing any larger than the one used on the 22re? I have a 91 pickup and am putting an isuzu diesel in it but I need a larger bell housing. any help would be appreciated.

They are different

The v6 has the r150f behind it

The 22re has the w56 behind it

I thought the engine wiring harness was somewhat separte from the interior? I would think it would not be that bad of a job. I will be doing it in the spring as well as I have a nice 95 body that had a V6 Auto in it going onto my 89 frame with the 22re 5speed.

The engine harness is mostly separate from the interior harness. There are some wires which go to the instrument cluster and possibly the O2 sensor which run under the dash. I think these are on a separate plug to the ECU. If you have a cruise control and/or auto tranny, then there's definitely wires running under the dash.

The yota harnesses are a nightmare to sort out. Toyota made dozens of variations even within the same model year. I made a harness for mine from 3 different harnesses to get one that fit.

Ide just sell the 22re and go for a 4.3. You could get a whole donor vehicle for under 1500 easy. Youll need to do some wiring to do the 4.3 or 22re swap. I suggest if your going to use the 22re then go to tech info to get the schematics. The yota harness is easy to work on and make work. if you dont like wiring... good luck

If you really want to complete that swap and you don't want to pull the dash harness, shoot me an email, I can probably make you a plug and play harness with what you have.
