Engine Stutter Help!!!
I have a 1986 toyota 4x4 truck. 22r fuel injected! Reliable as hell! So about a week ago i was getting ready for a small road trip, checking the oil, water air in the tires ect. I pulled out the air filter and noticed that it was pretty dirty. Really dirty. So i went down to napa and got a new one. It seemed to run a hell of alot smoother. Took off down the hwy. About 60-70 miles away it developes a sputter feeling. I turned around and head for home. I get up the next morning and start the truck and you cant even tell anything is wrong. Runs fine. After about 10 mintues of driving it developes the sputter feeling again. You know how a carburated motor runs when the choke sticks open? Thats what it feels like. Will start up and run fine then after about 10 minutes it starts doing it. Do i have a clogged injector? I have ran a bottle of injector cleaner thru it. No difference???? Any help. Frustrating as hell. Even when the sputter developes it loses a little power but still runs, just not right??????? Thanks alot!!!!

It has all new plug wires, and i replaced the fuel filter about about 6 months ago. I just cant understand why it starts right up and runs fine for about 10 minutes then starts doing it?????

Igntion system tune-up. Distriblutor cap, rotor button, spark plugs. Injector cleaner does not do much to be honest with you. But yea check those things if none of that your timing might be off a hair. You may need to seafoam it.

The reason it does it, I think, is that the thermo sensor is malfunctioning and is telling the ECU the engine is always cold. When its cold/warming up, it runs fine because it needs the rich mixture, but once it warms up, it floods out.

No it never did it ever until i changed the air filter. When i pulled the old one out it was very dirty i mean bad. I was in a hurry and just yanked it out and threw the new one in there. Thats why i thought mabey some dirt got in and clogged an injector. The other thing i noticed once it starts the sputtering ....i drove it once for about 45 minutes just to get home and when i got out i could tell the exhaust was way hot. The pipe was ticking as if really hot. That lead me to beleive the cat converter was bad? Hell i dont know! LOL. Can i get a thermo sensor at an auto parts store? How much?

ECU temp sensor should be around $30.
Replace your PCV valve and see if that helps.
Look over your vacuum lines and see if you don't have a leak or collapsed hose. Do the same for all your intake hoses.
Clean out your AFM.

Okay so replace plugs, wires, cap, rotor, thermostat. Went and got a thermo sensor but the ones they sell at napa dont have the same connector on the end. They are close but not the same. Also there are 2 sensors....1 up top just back from the thermostat then one underneith all that? The one on top is a single pin lower one is 2 pin? Which one am i looking for???? All vacum lines seem to be fine?
