Engine noise in 93 22-re
177k miles on my 93 22-re. been there for a while and haven't noticed any oil consumption, power loss or anything like that. just doesn't sound good.
This vid is a cold start, so the rpm's are still a little high on it but you can clearly hear the "rattling" when the rpm's fall. i think it's the timing chain rattling against the guides.
Opinions?

The timing chain tension is set by oil pressure, so it would make sense to have the rattle if the rpms are coming down I would think.
Check out http://www.engnbldr.com/ as Ted carries excellent timing chain kits with steel guides and good instructions on tensioner installation.

i guess what i really would like answered, is this something that sounds drastic. it's not a commuter but a fun truck and occasional trip to the dump and hunting trails and such...
