I want to add power steering, but I know electric is the new way they are going so I am wondering if they have anything available that would fit our trucks.

Not cheaply. Unless you want to use a motor to drive the hydraulic pump. I've never seen an electric recirculating ball steering box ever, they are all R&P.

I am sure it could be done .

I would think of the top of my head you would need to build a gear box to drive the pump via a electric motor

. A 12 volt motor to drive a pump would be about the size of a starter motor .

now would it run all the time like a engine driven pump ??

Now one would also need to upgrade the electrical system in either case such a electrical demand might be enough to kill the ignition

Would you design and build a on demand system this is where it would get interesting designing a system that could give you instant response in case of a emergency steering situation.

The design and trials is what are so very expensive .

Then you have the figuring just where to mount all the hardware .

It is a interesting project but I am 20 years behind as it is

Just find a donor truck in the junk yard that came with power steering or find someone who is parting one out. These systems are pretty bullet proof from the factory and there is no need to try and reinvent something that works perfect from the factory.
Its easy to do the swap and can be done in a few hours in the driveway. I did the swap on my truck a few years ago and it was pretty simple, even on a non stock truck.

Yes but it is good to look at these things once and while .

Then see the system the factory uses is really pretty simple and trouble free.

Best the parts can be found all over the place .

Custom off the shelf parts it could be quite sometime to they get to your location .

Now if said parts had to be fabricated I hope you have a few good books and a K-9 to keep you company .
