You could just swap the entire axle but the width is different. yours is 58" and the Tacoma axle is 60.75". You can just replace the third though.

Here is a good write up on how to do it.

thats what i figured. i have looked into the third member swap but i was just thinking that swaping the whole axle out would be easyer. To make up the size diffrence i could just put front wheel spacers on couldent I? another thing is the stock gears from a tacoma the same as my 88?

We are swapping a 2004 complete e-locker into an 85 (5" wider than stock).

Doing a TG 5" F/R lift also. Modding the front solid axle to take another e-locker.

So, front and rear e-lockers, 5" lift, 2" front wheel spacers, 35" swampers, and vented big brake swap.

I didn't know that the taco's had wider rear ends, learn something new every day,

Probably a stupid question that I should search for, but do you know if the spring pad spacing is the same? Did taco's ever come with discs in the rear? Or are they sucking like us with drums?

Anyone do this on a 1st gen V6? Seems like you don't need to make notches but still add 2 longer studs?

I've read the write-ups online, but they all refer to the 4 cylinder housings.

I now have this suckered install on the truck but the bolt pattern on the drive shaft does not line up. My rig is a 88 V6 4runner and donor car is an 03 Tacoma.

Do I need to switch out flanges?

Triple drilled flange or rotate one 15-45 degrees and redrill to match.

Would you say it is easier to replace the flange or re -drill it? Could I use the flange off my original diff and throw it on this e-lockered one?

You cant use the old flange...The e-locker has a different spline count.

Can you explain this rotating it one 15-45 degrees method? Would I experience vibrations compared to swapping in a trippled drilled flange?

I was told my 88 V6 4runner is a 27 spline, but the gears I bought for my truck are for both V6 4runners and Tacomas with an e-locker. Wouldn't this mean they both have 27 splines and the flanges interchangeable?????

I am not at home, otherwise I would count them! haha

Again, rig 88 V6 4runner and donor 03 Tacoma TRD

how much are these taco complete rear ends running used? I assume if you get a 4.30 rear even though they are different than the 92 4.30, they are still fine to run with the original 4.30 up front? 4.30 is 4.30 however they build it right? Is the 92 also 2 inches shorter than the taco rear end?

So I went home and counted 29 on the stock 03 Tacoma pinion, this could be really 30 as I was in a hurry. Marlin says the Yukon gears should be 27, BUT the diff has Yukon 5.29 gears installed with the STOCK TACOMA flange.

Could the diff shop have messed this up and forced the 30 flange on to the Yukon 27 pinion? I couldn't imagine as this shop has been around for 20 years.

I got this sucker on my rear end and runs well, but it's not sealed well. I think it leaks around the pumpkin. I could have sworn I put a ton of RTV on there.

Can I just clean up the edges and apply some more sealant around it? Reason being, the holes were not drilled perfectly straight and its a pain to remove.

TIA!
