Electric fan temp probe

Ok, last thread for awhile, I promise. I have an electric fan on my 87 and I am having a problem with the temp probe. It says to put it in the upper rad. hose but if I do, it leaks. If I just put it through the fins, it doesn't read the temp. Have any of you run into this?
