mechanic said he found several bad wiring harnasses that got wet and shorted out. How can I prevent that stuff, I thought an off road vehicle like a 4 runner was relatively waterproof.

Cool that you got it fixed, but... you're right, it shouldn't have been much of an issue. I'm wondering if the mechanic isn't playing a couple of games in order to justify an extra hour of labor.

For the symptoms that you had it could have come frm just one wire. On top of it, many of us here, myself included, have had our rigs VERY wet with no real problems.

I just posted a seperate thread for that in case some of you have already read it. I was wondering which connectors were found bad and where is it in you truck?

Could it possibly be a shorted out bad fuel pump? My fuses started blowing, then got worse and worse then finally shorted out to the point that I didn't even have to crank the engine to blow one. It just blew when I put it in. Arc and everything. Sorry fir resurecting an old thread but I was following the search mentality here
