ECU Compatibility '87 4runner?
Hi Guys,
Quick question. I fried my ECU and am looking for a new one. Which years would be compatible? I'm thinking any pre-'89 22RE is that correct?
Does anyone have one they would be willing to sell?
Thanks for any help.

Sorry I can't be more helpful but there are often different ECU's within one model year and sometimes ECU's might carry over to another model year too. Different markets may use the same ECU but with a different part number as well.
That's why it's difficult to say with any absolute certainty that one ECU is compatible with another, but part numbers don't lie.

u got an auto or m/t?
I have used the ecu from a 95 4runner 3vze, auto, downstream o2 sensor, and egr gas temp sensor, on my 91 p/u 3vze 5spd with no downstream o2, and no egr gas temp sensor, and it ran just fine, no codes or nothing. If i unplugged any of the senors I do have (ie tps, speed sensor, o2....), it would throw a code, so I believe it was working properly. I doubt highly that it would work the other way tho... using a m/t ecu with an auto....but havent tried that yet, so ya never know.
you might be able to get a different one to work.... but matching the parts #'s is the only way to guarantee.
