Sorry for the bump, but are the DOT-approved ones completely crap compared to the E-codes? Currently I have the stock lights.

Why would you want to convert to H4's? There isn't anything wrong with our 9004's. In fact, they have to convert from sealed beam to H4 just to change to a brighter bulb or HID. Where as we can already do that without any converting.

Yes you can. Any HID kit with 9004 bulbs will work. I suggest buying a decent kit off of ebay with a slim ballast, as our Runners have very limited space to fit ballasts in.

from what I hear, no. E-code lamps focus all the light below a cutoff line so they do a slightly better job illuminating the road for a given wattage of bulb (DOT lets a little bit leak above to the sides to help illuminate road signs) but either sealed beam replacement lamp is gonna be way better than pretty much any sealed beam design out there (probably because the housing isn't made to be cheap and disposable).

Oh please don't. You'll get better output with a proper rewire and halogens in quality H4 housings.

If you do HID, do it properly with true HID projectors. HID in halogen housings = crap.

you mean the bulb in the housing? no, it should be fairly tightly clipped in. check to make sure the bulb itself is in good condition. one of my bulbs wasn't fully attached to the "ring" (the part that clips in, with the 3 tabs)

I'm talking about putting the new hw housing into the "adjustment housing"(don't know what its called). And then you put the chrome trim piece over the new housing. Mine probably have about an 1/8th of an inch of play. Nothing a little ductape can't fix.
