Early 22RE hard start

Greetings:All
Couldnt find help in FAQs but Im sure this is a common problem: '86 4X4 P.U. hard to start 1st time every day(cold/wet/dry/warm) Cranks over fine. Will always start with a little help from a spray can, but thats not putting any longevity in my 100K engine I know.. The problem started out as easy start, but no fast idle when cold..gradually getting worse until now it wont start without liquid help.. Tried a different(known good) cold start valve- no difference. Its getting to be the rainy season and I guess its time to ACTUALLY FIX IT!!! Thanks in advance Refugio Red

22 RE hard start Follow-up

Rob, I just had another thought(Thats 2 this year already!!) My "theft deterrent" is a push-button hidden starter switch under dash. Since the Cold Start Injector only fires when starter is engaged & I had bypassed the original solenoid wire from key switch...Follow my drift? Is circuit completed only when the key switch is in start position?? Red

Hmm sounds like it could be a possible culprit. I don't know the wiring on these trucks good enough to give you a positive answer, though. I'm sure some people on here know. Is there any way you could temporarily undo your push button switch to test your thought?

OK Got it-it was the lack of connection from key switch to Cold Start Injector. It didnt act up til weather changed.. Just put a "T" connector on solenoid tab-
1 side of "T" for original solenoid wire-1 side to push button-Problem solved-thanks for help...Red

Glad you got it figured out. Mine was the same way when I disconnected it to install an aftermarket gauge. I didn't have a problem till summer turned to fall and it started getting colder out.
