E-Locker to Cable Install & Question

Would it be possible to install an electic locker, but make it cable driven and never have to install the electric motor? I can pick up a TRD E-Locker for about 450.00 from a dealership or less if I can find one in a junkyard, but I like the cable driven due to less possible things to go wrong with installation and offroad situations.

What does anyone think about this kind of installation?
Would there be as much modding needed?
Would it be better then just dealing with all the electrical stuff?

Thanks
Chris

There are at least two companies offering a cable conversion for the toyota e-locker, they seem to get mixed reviews.

Putting the e-locker in a standard toyota 8" housing is very doable, it requires drilling one or two studs (I forget), a little massaging the housing with a punch / BFH, and mild grinding. Again, several write ups on the web.

I'm trying figure out what kind of locker to put in my truck. I really don't have enough money for the air locker and I don't like the idea of having to purchase a compressor and everything anyways.

Does anyone know if some company makes an cable locker? I know OX does but I haven't ever seen them but for Jeeps.

As mentioned, downey does.
Here's someone that did their own:

I know a few other small fab shops are making them also.

I've done lunchbox lockers also and didn't like them for street use. Like you, I didn't want to pony up $1200 for an ARB. I've got an e-locker (sitting in my garage) - you can properly rig up the relay system if you don't want to use a cable. There are several how-to's on the web.

I'm assuming with the relay system that you could use the locker whenever you wanted and not just in 4lo. I guess this is what I'll look into for my truck. Would you have to have the huge electric motor on the housing to run the locker with a relay system?

I wonder if I can pick up an e-locker at a junk yard. Guess it's time to start looking.

It's only limited to 4lo on the Tacoma. I believe you need 2 relays.
