E-brake lever interchange?

The vehicle I have is a '93 4runner, 22-re, 5speed, AAD. Brakes are stock (disc and drum) and tires are 30". Pretty basic. One of the problems I am experiencing is with the e-brake. The brake engages when the lever is pulled in the cab, but the amount of pull is pretty short. My guess on that is it is at the end of it's adjustment range. I have not inspected the threaded lever connection point where the front and rear cables meet (I'm assuming it is pretty similar to a 1st gen.) I once had to replace the front/rear cables on a 1st gen., so hopefully it would be similar.

What I am wondering is whether or not the lever in the cab would interchange with a 1st gen. lever? The lever on mine has some button on the backside, and is bigger, and in rough shape towards the back. The cable, where it turns down to go through the firewall/out of the cab, keeps binding up (perhaps because of a worn sheath/housing or stiff mechanism), and my thought was, if I replace the cable(s), why not do this at the same time?

I'm trying to get pictures of the lever/tube assembly from both gen's to get a strictly visual comparison.

Thanks for the help!

Ppossibly similar if its a v6 1st gen. The 4cyl ebrakes go thru the firewall not down thru the floor board

Hmm... I'll have to go out and look to confirm how it is routed. It wasn't the brightest when I peeked under there and tried to see if the shaft was bent or if it was sticking on something. Any clue as to what that button does though? Is that the 2nd gen. equivalent of the "pull and turn" release on the 1st gen's? I'm only just learning the delicate differences on this, my first 2nd gen. 4runner. Manuals should be here next week perhaps (thanks again, Erich_870)

Oh, the joys of having a Toy again!
