Dually tear-down
Not necessarily a build-back-up, but sharing my experience for your consideration. '92 2wd 'duality', V6, 1-ton.
After wincing at it for a year, I began tearing it down. An old-schooler's personal anecdote about how his father-in-law let him take everything apart on the farm in the 50's came back to me so I had at my own.
I lifted off the 7'x10' dance floor and found a 'wet' brake line with a pin-hole leak where the gas tank seam collected crud next to the frame. Caveat emptor. It dissolved the frame.
'I hate thee salt trucks', too. Ball peen hammer revealed typical salt damage on wheel arches.
Cab removal. Two of the most difficult tasks turned out to be, no surprise, seized cab mounts, especially the one under the driver's pedals, and...
...the rusty splines on the three part drive shaft. Using a copper drift on the clamp, I drove the middle spline into the upper most steering wheel spline - there was room in the socket. As for the rest of the cab it was hoses, hardlines, and electrical plugs.
Carrier bearing for the two-piece driveshaft.
Like many, I used to think a BFH could take care of anything. My rage and subsequent burst of energy could not force the swollen pin through the holes in the hanger. Keep it to yourself. Typical problem I assume for anyone not in arid climates.
Ignorantly, I assumed that I would transfer the front's calipers to my 4-runner, however, they don't match vendor images or manual illustrations for V6 calipers. Beefy.
The rear hub looked bass-ackwards but gets simpler the more I study it. A cool feat to get two wheels sandwiched together-one dished inwards over the drum, and, the other, outwards. Both convex wheel surfaces held on the plate by one set of studs.
Thanks Philbert.

Frame rust
This may sound bad, but being from PA also, I've seen worse frames than that repaired.

I've never seen another, yet, which was a 5-speed. All u-hauls and campers with automatics. I thought mine was somewhat unique with nice wood gates all around. It would be quite a truck, restored. Improvements would be fun-the open diff annoyed me as it rolled around like a pig in slush. Don't know.
