DRL Marker Lights.

DRL Marker Lights.
Hi,
I am wanting to disable the DRL's on my 91 but still want to have the marker lights on. I've searched the DRL threads to no avail. is there anyway to do this that anyone has tried. i just don't like the idea of no lights at all but want to put some better head lights in without them running all the time.
thanks in advance

there has been quite a few posts re: drl disable. i cannot recall who posted up specifics for model years but, once you find out how to disable, put your new hl's in and just run the markers via the stalk switch.
apparently, my 93 module is under the ashtry/shift console area. somewhere.

Ok, in front of the shifter is a cover, take off the cover and you will see a DRL module, take it out and look at all the wires. Look for a Black wire with Orange stripe. cut that and you'll be DRL free. 92-95 are different to 90-91.

So far as it goes the factory DRL circuit on the Canadian 4runners/trucks only turns on the headlights, the running lights are dark until you turn them on with the switch. So what you are actually wanting to do is change the whole circuit. This might be possible but you'd have to go through the circuit diagrams and do a fair bit of rewiring. Here are some links to the online FSM pages you need...
http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/1990-1995...es/wiring.html
see page 1 in above link
It looks like you'll need take the W-G wire (shown beside the battery) and disconnect it from the headlight harness. and connect it to...
(see page 1 in link below)
http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/1990-1995...es/wiring.html
the G wire at position 11 of the integration relay shown at the top of the page.
THIS IS ONLY MEANT AS A PLACE TO START. I HAVE NOT DONE THIS MOD MYSELF. IF YOU TRY IT I RECOMMEND YOU CHECK POLARITY OF ALL WIRES BEFORE YOU CONNECT THEM, TO PREVENT SHORT CIRCUITS AND USE AN INLINE FUSE IN YOUR JUMPER CONNECTION... JUST IN CASE.
Hope this helped.
