Driveshaft Issues
ok so like i posted in another thread im gettin this bad squealing sound from underneath the truck, sounds like its coming from more toward the rear...im thinking that my u joints need to be greased...my question is what type of grease, while i was at the auto store i saw a universal grease that is good for any universal joint, is that ok?
another thought was maybe im low on gear oil in my rear diff, so i was gonna use 75-90 mobil one, that should be good too right, and 2.5 quarts?
as for the squealing, it comes when i let off the gas, and when i lightly accelerate, anything more then that an its non existant. checked my belts already and its not them, and its a sound that is only there when it is cold, if its a warm day, no noise, and it doesnt go away once the truck warms up on a cold day. i have no clue what it is, im just starting to eliminate things now

U joints can use universal grease, though I have heard synthetic is better than just plain old lithium. While you are down there, be sure to hit any zerk fittings in the drive line. I have no idea on the diff oil.

Yep 75-90, but it really doesnt ever leak.. unless you have seen it leaking..
u-joints should be greased with every oil change.. use NGLI #2, synthetic is best... if you do your own oil changes you need to get a grease gun...
Not sure if you have a 2 piece or 1 piece drive shaft as you dont say ca/bed congif... but if its a 1 piece there will be 3 zerks on the rear shaft, 2 ujoint and 1 slipshaft.. if its a 2 piece there will probally be 6... 2 ujoint, 1 slip shaft, a 3 on the CV joint....

Well.. I greased the front and rear drive shafts. They appeared to have plenty of old grease in them from my prior liberal greasing 30k miles prior. Anyway, the squealing is still there for me. It will only squeal after driving for at least 10 minutes. The squeal is very high frequency, nearly above my audible range. The squeal is effected by how fast my truck is rolling. I cannot determine where the heck its coming from. Thus far I've repacked the front bearings and greased the drive shafts. Could it be the rear wheel bearings? I don't think its the clutch as the noise only occurs when rolling, clutch in or out doesn't make a difference. Could it be the spedo cable?
Ideas anyone? Thanks.

Are you sure the squeal is coming from under the truck? I had the same thing happen.....it would start squealing at 30MPH and scream like a banshee. It happened to be the plastic film coming loose off of the chrome beauty trim around the windshield. The squealing stopped after I trimmed it with a box cutter.

I'm certain its coming from under the truck.. but i cannot detect where.. front or back. When I pull into the garage, even very slowly, the squeal/sqeak noise is present until I come to a full stop.
