do/don't replace engine cooling fan

i had my 4runner towed to the dealer that i bought it from to fix the fan bracket. the tech. that fixed it just graduated from wyo tech and said that even though the engine belts chewed up my cooling fan (deep cuts, chunks taken out) that i don't need to replace it. is this true?

3vze? replace it with a newer style fan, that way it wont fly apart and go through your hood, hoses, other important stuff
