I hooked up a switch on the dash. I can turn off my DTRLs when I please, but for the most part, I leave the switch on. I wired up an LED to the switch which turns on when the DTRLs are OFF. That way, I don't forget and leave them off. Its always gray in the Sept-May here so, lights are pretty critical to not getting a ticket or hit.

Gonna do this one this weekend. I back in when parking, and of course the headlights shine right into our neighbors window.
If it was just headlights/although dim that would be fine, but full head and running lights seems overkill. And I do hate driving with them on in the summer. Really no reason for full lights all the time.

Here's the wire you are looking for, or at least the location. The wire colour may have changed between model years, so check twice, cut once. I added a switch to the wire so I could selectively disable them.

Confirmed the wire with an invention of mine (later found out someone stole my idea because it was for sale at NAPA). It the Halloween-coloured wire (orange, black with white dots).

I seriously believed I'd thought up a new tool.

I've outlined a test method to find out which wire. Read through it, and you'll be able to find it like I did.

I don't think a lot of people in this section of the board have much/ any experience with 4th gens I'm afraid.

Thread resurrection.

My Canadian 1991 4runner runs all lights as part of the DRLs ie. parking, tail and headlights. Is this normal?

If I cut the black (with orange stripe) wire, will this disable all the lights so that they don't come on as part of the DRLS?

This doesn't answer my question though. I read through this thread and still have one question.

Will this disable all the lights or just the headlights? My Canadian 1991 4Runner runs all the lights as part of the DRLs. This includes headlights, tail lights and parking lights. If I disconnect this wire I want to be sure it disables ALL the lights.
