Bought an 86 SR5 2WD extra cab new and it didn't have power locks/windows or cruise options. It does have chrome. Not up on the DLX.

The real difference from the Base is the EFI, bed design, and drive train. My buddy has a 85 Base and it has a carb vs EFI, has a bed with exterior top lip vs. smooth side, a 4 speed vs 5-speed, and an 8 inch diff vs my 7.5.

Other differences- no split rear window (this does make the interior cool without being windy), no carpet, no bucket seat, no clock, base gauge cluster, no vent windows. Both have AC.

The big key is that 8 inch diff. It's a work horse with parts and rebuilds available everywhere. My 7.5 diff is rare and can't find ring and pinion or any rebuilds. Good news is found a Toyota dealer who sell it for $950 about same price as rebuild. Salvage has them for ~$250. The 7.5 " has a 3.58 ratio, not sure what is the 8" ratio.

My truck was rated 29mpg highway, but at 60-65 MPH, I have from day one gotten 32 MPG and still do. At
70-75 I get the 29 mpg.

Both carry and tow the same. If you are going to tow and use it hard get the base. If you are looking for a nice riding street truck get the SR5.

I have a 94 that I put into the Toyota Owners section (IF you go to Toyota and click on the owners tab you can set up a profile. enter your vin and it will bring up your vehicle) and when I did mine it says mine was DLX. I have the sweet cluster and 5 speed trans. I have split seats 60/40 and no vent mirror. It does have AC.

MY 87 DLX has the tilt steer, 4spAT w/ OD, 22RE, cloth seats, pwr brakes, pwr steer, chrome bumper inserts, tach, altimeter top dash gauge cluster, AC, crank windows,
removable top/cap still driving w/ 284K, 2nd motor, crate from Greg Mahoney in Oregon. on my 4th tailgate!

My 89 SR5 was stick, same motor, no altimeter cluster, no AC, but other things same. bottom rotted out so I kept the top cap and hood putting on the 87. Drove for ten years

Base, dlx, sr5

These all designate what were "additional options" vs "standard options" and dealer upgrades. The sales brochure covers all this in a nice chart.

This is the difference I've seen in what I have owned in 4Runners.
Base- black bumpers, no clock and no rear defrost (early years)
DLX- clock, wheel well trim, chrome bumpers
SR5- Loaded with all options. Well some don't have a sunroof and rear heat. And a real SR5, the top of the doors is black.

That isn't exactly true.

My base model has a chrome grille, chrome mirrors, chrome trim, and chrome bumper from the factory.

You also could have bought an SR5 model with only a couple more options than a typical base model, with many more options still available.

It also seems to be year dependent on what is included for each trim level.

You used to be able to truly make your vehicle yours but lately it seems that mfgs. are getting away from that as a cost saving measure... the same as certain colour combinations are also not possible.
I have an 86 4Runner: original color=rose pink!

No way, at least not in the USA. What's the paint code? It's on the metal plate on the firewall.
