diesel swap?
i have a 87 4runner with a 22-RE right now it is parked until i have time to change the timing chain. I was looking in some classifies and i saw a 82 yoda pickup 4 cyl diesel engine for real cheap. what do you think, too much work to do the swap ? wonder it it even has enough power to move a 4 runner

Almost every 4Runner (they're imported from Japan and called HiLux Surf) sold in the UK is a diesel. The older ones have a 2.4turbo and the newer ones are 3.0turbo, some fitted with an intercooler.
They work fine, they're just slow.
By the way, I fitted the intercooler to mine - see avatar

I am in the process of putting a VW 1.6L Turbo diesel in my 89 Xtra cab. I am just making the adapter plate right now for the Engine to Trans. I have not heard to many good things about the old Toyota diesels. If that 82 is not a turbo don't bother. If you thought a 22RE was gutless a N/A 2.4 diesel would be brutal.
