Did I just blow a head gasket again?

okay guys..i witnessed a wreck today (guy rolled goin around a corner too fast) and i was the only one there so i obviously called 911 and stayed there with the guy to make sure he was okay (got thrown 30ft from the truck..which was a chevy...broke his right femur(spelling?) and cracked his pelvic bone)

after all that was over though, i went back to might truck which was parked on a slight incline..started it up..took off and about 100yds later it ALMOST died..like it wasn't gettin fuel..i pulled over and gave it a few pumps of gas and kept it goin..then it was just fine.

well i come all the way home everything is just fine..never overheated..oil PSI is okay and the truck is running great.
.
well i meet a friend in town, leave my truck there and we go to the next town over, i get back to my truck about 5 hrs later or so...start it up..and it's only runnin on 3 cylinders.....uh oh...i look back at my exhaust..and it's blowin a little white smoke..i rev it up to about 2000rpms..and white smoke goes flyin out the tail pipe..but it's not missing anymore?

i let it run for a bit..smoking the whole time...and the idle goes bad again..i rev it up a little and hold it steady and the missfire goes away.

i shut er down, check my coolant..and low and behold..it's just barely above the core..i check my overflow tank...and it is FULLLLLL....what the hell?!?!?!?!

so please guys.....tell me my truck did NOT just blow the headgasket AGAIN!!!!!

did you give your head the full Monte the last time it was off?

Or at least check it with a straightedge?

ahhh, ok... Then you pull your valve cover off and re-torque the head.

I'll check the torque on the head..i remember re-torquing it at about 5000 miles..but i'll check it again!

my oil looks fine..so does my coolant! i'm popping the valve cover AS SOON AS I GET HOME! and torquing that head down a little more to see if it helps.

mine was a rock auto as well. I don't know how it was installed though so I can't really blame it. I put a FelPro in this time, we'll see how it goes.

Doe it smell like gas? I would do a compression test on all cylinders.

tell me before you change my title...that's irritating...who ever you are

no it actually didn't smell like coolant either...it was a very new smell...indescribable

i'm gonna run a compression test this weekend, see what happens from there..new plugs and wires for sure (i need em anyway).

So did you ever re-torque the head? And when you say smoke, was it a really dense white smoke or more of a steam? Because I can only imagine really dense white smoke being coolant. Also, have you checked your O2 sensor? It could be messed up after the first blown gasket if you didnt replace it and that could be messin with how your truck is runnin, doesnt really explain the smoke though

also, I know you replace the head, but did you check for pits or any other problems near the tops of the cylinders, you may have a good head gasket but a bad block. I would also like to add that I hope thats not your problem because that would suck

i haven't been able to get the time to fiddle with the truck yet, been busy lately with family problems, yard sale, cleaning house, loading my 3VZ and '80 toyota...

i'm hoping to be able to get to it this weekend, or maybe thursday.

the head had less than 3000 miles on it when i did the rebuild..no pits or any problems with the block or that head, and we checked the head before we put it back on to make sure it was straight and such lol

it's not so much a dense white smoke as it is a steam like when you start your truck on a cold morning...it looks JUST like that...and it's got a slight blue tint to it...so i know that part is oil..but it always burned a little on startup..and after running for a minute or so the blue smoke is completely gone.

i'm hoping i can just wrench the head down a little and everything be okay, i'm not going to sell it until i have this problem fixed, the cv's replaced, front shocks, and ball joints...then i'll rotate the tires and let her go.
