Dexron III or Dexron II

I'm gonna drain and refill my auto tranny on my 95 A340h tomorow morning. It was completely flushed about 20k miles ago right before I bought it but it has 162k miles and I don't really want to flush it anymore. Anyhoo....I went to Autozone this morning and they told me the DEX III was compatible with DEX II. I've read on here before that it's not. So does anyone know for sure if the Dexron III will be compatible with Dexron II that's already in my tranny? I may just go to the dealer and buy their fluid. Opinions? Paul

If you had it flushed 20k ago, then you have Dex III in there now (unless somebody still had a stash of Dex II somewhere). They don't make Dex II anymore, and yes they are compatible.

Redline offer Dex II and its synthetic formula... I like using DEX II more if you can get it, use it.

DEX III is supposed to be improved. Use that. It really won't matter much though. Most people i have talked to say it was mainly a marketing skeem.
