Detroit trutrac questions

This message is for people that have a detroit trutrac in their rear diff or someone that knows them. When i go across ditches i lift the tire and off course this is not a locker but a limited slip. I started off by giving it a gentle yank of the E brake and nothing. So i choked down on the e brake and she came out. Is this usual or is something out of whack back there. One day when i was climbing a gravel pile i yanked on the e brake and it started to climb but i soon heard a zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz noise come and i almost sh** myself. Am i just paranoid or is this a problem. It will however let you put a tire in the grass and one firmly on asphalt and spin the tire on the dry pavement. Thanks a lot guys

I have a Detroit Tru Track in my front Diff. The guy who built my SAS before I giught my rig had been told it was a locker and he didn't realize it was a limited slip (Thus the reason I am waiting for my Ring and Pinion to go before I replace it)

So when wheeling if a tire lifts off the ground with a TT you lose all locker power. You have to apply some break pressure (either e-brake or normal break) to fool the limited slip into thinking it has some traction on both tires. Then the TT will work. I have to do this all the time while wheeling. Unfortunately applying break pressure does not give you a 1:1 ratio of TT locker-ness. It gives you 3/5ths - so it really is not nearly as good as a real locker (not to mention the fact that now you are trying to do break pressure while gassing over the obstacle)

So from what you said - yes this is normal for a Tru Trac.

can any body tell me what a Detroit Truetrac for the rear axel of the 2nd gen 4runners goes for?
