Looks like your oil cooler hose. Look right below the thermostat housing. Look in this pic I took when i had my motor out...notice the hose right under the thermostat housing.

IIRC there is an extra hose line that comes off of the water pump next to the thermostat housing....there are 2 types of water pumps that you can buy for the 3.0. One with or without the cooler line. This hose you are referring to IS NOT the heater core. I rebuilt this engine before and I know. In this pic that you are posting from the archives, they have the oil cooler blocked off it looks like. Your mechanic might have bought the water pump that does not have the extra oil cooler line coming off from it. Please someone correct me if I am wrong.

Ok...check here http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...09waterpum.pdf

Notice on the thermostat housing there is a small hardline coming off of it....theres where that line attaches to. Call your local auto parts store and ask them for the price of a water pump and ask them if they have 2 different water pumps listed...one with and without the oil cooler line coming off from it. If they say yes....then call your trusty mechanic and tell him he got the wrong water pump on it and change it out WITH the oil cooler line that comes off the thermostat housing.

Haha...its not a heater outlet man....its the oil cooler line. It cools the oil while your engine is running. If it were me...I would take it to the mechanic, and have him replace it FREE of charge since he obviously doesn't know what the hell he is doing. I guess he lives by that philosophy that its meant to have parts left over and not accounted for....

Take a look at the diagram on that site I sent you....it says No. 2 Oil cooler line.
