defeated by the ebrake cable

OK, so what I thought would be a ten minute job has turned into a 3 hour job with 2 hours an 58 minutes spent with no progress trying to get the handle end of the cable loose. I've read about the two pawls - one moves quite easily but the forward end won't budge. Any ideas?

Never mind - I just got mad out of frustration and grabbed the handle and twisted as hard as I could and it came loose. Sometimes a "bigger hammer" actually works!

Oh, one other tip - make sure you cuss the inanimate object as much as possible. Call it a mother f-er at a minimum! Worked for me......

dont feel too bad, it took me a while to figure out where those little pawls where as well! not much room to work between the firewall and bellhousing either, some long handled screwdrivers and extensions will come in handy for opening and closing the sheetmetal tabs that hold the cable in place.

hope it went well for you, it is a pita to do!

Yeah, read up on it and found the pawls - just couldn't do anything with them. Anyway, the final answer was to become enraged and put the incredible hulk twist on it. Rediculously frustrating job for a dang e-brake cable!

I dont remember replacing mine being difficult. It's been awhile since my broke just behind the handle (where the cable bends to go DOWN under the truck) the cable freyed and eventually just snapped.

I remember having to push something in to make the handle go in further so I could get the end of the cable out but dont remember a hassle.

hehe

Maybe the part of pushing the handle further in was the issue - I was trying to pull it out farther....

Yeah, mine was broken for three years. We've had a really cold winter here and I go to work at 5:00 am so my truck has been hurtin'. That was the impetus to finally fix it - so I could leave it running outside the coffee shop in the morning without getting a bunch of funny looks for pulling up onto the sidewalk to use the parking block as a wheel chock!

I just got my cable from a Toyota dealer - it wasn't cheap there obviously: $75.
