Deckplate on 93 4 Cyl?

I've done all kinds of searching and reading but I haven't found the answer. How many folks here have tried the deckplate mod on the 93 era 4 cyl engine? I recently got this truck from my Dad. It's my 3rd toyota truck, but my last one was a V6. The 4-banger with 4wd is a dog. I'm wondering what kind of performance results and possibly gas mileage changes I can expect if I do the mod. Thanks.

i can't say there was any change in mileage. the giddyup was increased a good deal. but i did my own version of the mod along with the addition of some headers.
