Well it is about all together. I had to hold off due to a new freind I call bi-metal vacuum switch valve. Till then I'll gather up some new belts and plugs (both were very much so needed) and an air filter. I only wish I did the plugs sooner. The left side seems like a bitch to get at with any kind of extension, but yeah just about done.

So I got it all back together and tried to crank and the battery is dead, just a bunch clicking sounds is all I get today. I have a bad feeling about this. I tried to jump start and even after about 15 minutes of charging it sounded like it was having a hard time turning the engine. I guess I'll get a new batter and keep my fingers crossed.

Did you turn it over by hand after putting it all back together?

So I put in a new battery and nothing. It'll crank like mad now but besides the random backfiring it won't start.
So now starts the part where I find out what I did wrong.

backfiring maybe a sign of a timing issue, did you install your dizzy correctly?....all timing marks lining up correctly

yeah looks like I am going to have to go back in and check that timing out again. Tuesday is the next day I have off so I'll double check my work then. For now I don't think I can even think about turning another wrench. Maybe the process of going crazy thinking about it will get me to go out there again within the next couple of days but till then

not once or twice but thrice? that only makes sense. Just to make sure that it sets I guess huh. Yeah I rotated it but only one cycle. I thought that would be enough. I remember earlier in this post that you (buckz) had to dig back into as well because of that damn belt falling off a couple of teeth on the cam sprocket. yikes. So yeah on monday after work I'll set the #1 on tdc and double check to see if I got the distributor right, and if I did then back into it I'll go.

Dude, I can only hope that that's the only problem ( if any ) that I have when I do mine! Cake fix! Grats on it too!

Oops, I meant to clarify, in that pic you snapped of the Dizzy, that SHOULD actually be about 180 from where it is ( give or take ) right?

That is correct. (btw) I couldn't have completed this project without the help of this forum. Thanks.

No, I must have moved my engine before I installed the rotor assembly.
