deadly sound!

i own a 1986 4runner and my friend owns a 1986 pickup truck and every time either of us make a very sharp turn (like a U turn and such) the truck will make a very loud clicking/scratching noise coming from the front two wheels(you can also feel it kind of shake)....... my friend said it was normal and happened to his brothers 90 4runner but i just wanted to make sure there was no problem. seeing how this is my DD and first truck. thanks for your time

It's the IFS steering stops...they are loud. If it's only happening at full lock, don't worry about it, when it starts doing it on very slight turns, then get worried.

You can greese the crap out of the stops, but it wears away pretty quick.

That's strange. When I grease mine, they don't make a peep for about 5 months.

Finally got around to greasing mine after so many years of that horrible noise.

Used quakerstate muti purpuse wheel bearing grease, been a week and no noise, even with the 80mm of rain we have gotten in the past 3 days

i just try to take easy turns. it only happens once in a while. but when it takes away from the sweet sound of nature, and engines, that you'd find on the trail.......

I greased mine with motomaster cheapo grease when I bought the truck 8 months ago. Still no noise except occasionally on the driver's side.

Lol thats the best reply Ive heard in a while. I tried this and its lasted so far. At school were pulling engines apart and I learned a trick about removing freeze plugs, you heat them up and melt wax over the threads and this gave me the idea, but anyways, I melted wax on the stop plate and the bolt that sticks out and it made it go away. But its only been like 3 days and I rarely turn hard enough to engage the stop anyways but Ill let you know when it comes back

Those caps are a ripoff from the dealership...$20 if I remember right for the 4 of them. Just grease the things.
