Just an FYI but the bolts won't break lose, they are press fit into the third member. You have to remove the nuts. Spray them with some kind of oil and let it sit for a while. When I did mine I used two wrenches to push/pull.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, using one wrench to press against the frame and one to pull down on really helps.

i know what you mean tho, the spare front diff i have laying in my garage, i cant get one of the bolts off and to make it easier the whole thing is out of my truck.. so sometimes these bolts are on there good.

If memory serves those are 17mm heads (bolt/nut). Put a 17mm box end wrench on the bolt side and press it against the frame or something and get a 1/2" or 3/4" dirve breaker bar and 17mm socket (6 point) and break the nuts loose with that.

Check the specs to make sure that they are indeed 17mm and then go to work on them. You might have to spray something like PB blaster on there for several days in a row depending on how much rust you have.

Maybe I am missing the context of this thread but the "bolts" are not bolts. They are studs with splines that you can not see until removed. What I did was :
1. take of the nuts
2. put the nuts back on one at a time to use as a place to hit with a hammer so as to not damage the stud threads and punch each stud out one by one. Mine popped right out after a good few whacks.
3. take a small grinder and grind of those splines so that they slip back into place so effectively you now have "bolts".

This will make is much easier to change later and especially if on the trail.

Correct. Did you take all 6 out? I never got around to it while I was still IFS. I've read that 3 is enough and that supposedly this can allow you to change on the trail without removing all the hub stuff. I never had the pleasure. (fortunately)

Hmmm. I didnt know that. I ground them all down. I guess if you are taking the time to do 3, you may as well do 6.
