CV Axle replacement

Newb here I have a1994 Toyota 4X4 pickup, V6, Removed the CV axle to replace seal but all I see is the 6 bolt flange on the side
diff. so is the seal behind it in the differential? If so is this something an old guy like me can do in my garage or best left to a shop. TIA.

Old guy? A lot of the folks on this forum bought their trucks new. You do the math.

The seal is in the differential carrier or the clutch case, depending on the side you're talking about. Here's the manual: http://web.archive.org/web/201204242...le/24disas.pdf (this is for vehicles with ADD). I've never pulled the differential apart, but it looks a little involved. But then, so does replacing a timing belt, and lots of "old guys" do that in a gravel parking lot (no garage). Take a look at the manual, and make your own decision about what you'd like to try.

I think I resemble that remark.

Thanks scope, I changed out the cv axle and I can live with the leak, not a big loss of oil anyway.
