Custom Exhaust questions
hey guys, i'm going to be having a Custom exhaust fab'd up for the 4runner to get rid of the crappy stock crossover pipe
but i just took the motor out of the 4runner before checking to see what angle the exhaust is going to have to be at coming off of the passenger side manifold..
so can someone give me a ballpark angle of pipe coming off of the pass. exhaust manifold DOWNWARD??...the new crossover is going to go under the transmission close to the T-case cross-member.
before i get the motor back together..i figured it would be easier to take the manifolds to a buddy and get the exhaust started, i'm just gonna get the block off plate made for the driverside manifold(where the crossover connects) and a flange with a short piece of pipe (maybe 5in.) coming off of the passenger side manifold...but i have no idea what angle it needs to be because the motor is not in the truck.
so if somebody can help me..please do!

GAHHH you had me sooo excited for a minute LMAO
i guess it'd be nice to have a piece of pipe precut so when i take it to get the exhaust done, it won't be such a pain in the arse.
maybe like..a 12" piece of pipe? lol

What gen 4runner are you talking about? (if a first had a 3vze?) I have a second gen with a 3vze and if you can explain a bit more I can try to get you what you need tomorrow afternoon after school

yes a 2nd gen!
okay, on the passenger side, there is room for exhaust pipe to come down just like the driverside does, but i forgot to figure out the angle it would need to be at before i pulled my motor out.
theres all kinds of lines right there so it needs to be pretty exact..i mean i can bend exhaust tubing with a torch..but only so far LOL

how would I figure this angle? Sorry im still a noob to this stuff. lol I can take pics of what it looks like and you can show me in the pics what to measure or whatever I would need to do!

You know I have to post in this camo
I'd like to see what you're going to do about the driver side manifold. Have you looked at the piping yet? the passenger side manifold wraps around the engine block, and connects to the driver side manifold. I even took the time to take pictures for you that's love right there... give me a minute to upload them

the driver side will be a BREEZE! lmao
i'm going to get a block off plate made for the back of the manifold where the crossover bolts!! i see no problems with the driver side manifold? lol if you know something i don't..PLEASE speak up LOL!!!
and thanks for the pics

i don't wanna drop the cash for headers since i'm swapping for a 3.4 in a couple of years LOL.
and i think for now, the plate will be okay..i see what you're saying though about the flow, i think i'll gain a little by ditching the crossover, but i might loose a little by having the weird flow on the DS manifold.
ehh oh well!!!! 95% of the reason i'm doing this is to help with heat issues caused by the buildup of heat from the crossover meeting right there. and this will accomplish that very well! lol

wait, you're doing a 3.4 in a couple years? I understand that you're rebuilding your 3.0? honestly dude, in all seriousness. I think you should just ditch the idea in general. combined with how much its going to cost to make a new crossover, weld a new O2 sensor into the down pipe, and the time to take out the stock crossover pipe. its really not worth it. since you're rebuilding your 3.0, and swapping a 3.4 eventually, a few years of having the stock crossover isn't gonna hurt it.

Um, I went outside to take the picture for you. But all I see from the top is manifolds. Thats all I can see because on the passenger side I have all my vacuum lines in the way of seeing anything else.

oh yea i forgot about that rats nest lmao
uhm..i guess maybe from the bottom looking up at the manifold? lol you don't have to if you don't want to lol

I didn't notice you got the pictures already, thanks MaK92-4RnR for saving me the trouble of understanding, lol. I didnt understand much if you cant tell. lol. I wish I could get a set of headers. Where I live I dont have to have emissions or inspection so I plan on having headers with a cat and the rest all straight pipe..

Is this what you wanted? I cant seem to get a better picture, because my phone will not fit anywhere else to get a closer picture. I also tried to get a picture of the driver side but I will have to take the intake hoses out to get that because I dont have enough room under it.

mak, my motor is sitting in front of my 4runner, it's extremely simple to ditch the crossover, i will not have to wire in a new 02 sensor??? well..i'll have to have a Bung welded into the new pipe for the driverside, but the passenger side will not have to have one.
instead of doing another crossover, i'm going to go with a dual inlet single outlet muffler, 2.25" pipe from the manifolds to the muffler, then prolly 2.25" pipe out towards the stock location..or a turndown right in front of the axle lol
i will likely sell the rebuilt 3.0 and exhaust when i swap the 3.4, so it will be beneficial to someone else too LOL!!!
ehh...your pic doesn't show much buddy, i'm going to email some of the Vet's on here and see if someone can give me a ballpark angle. thanks for the help though! points to the NOOB for trying loL!
