I'm planning on making a flex pipe an option.

What do you have so far?

I will be pulling mine off and was planning on using 2 p-side manifolds. My HG just started to go this week, white smoke and crap underneath the oil cap.

I may have to move quick so would love to see more as an option.

Thanks!

Mike

I'm waiting on a second set of manifolds to come. They should be shipped sometime over the break. THen I need to make a jig etc. They should be ready in the new year, the only thing holding me back right now is the spare manifolds.

I'm new to the whole Toyota game but a mechanic friend of mine said headers would be the best way to go and would produce the most significant horsepower gains. Is he wrong?

Sure, this may be true. However Toyota manifolds are typically well tuned and the major problem with the 3.0 design is the crossover. According to Toysrme with the 3vzfe there was about 10hp in the crossover and about 2-5 in the headers IIRC. Now a crossover should run around $200 or less hopefully and headers are at least twice that plus a crossover. So if all you are buying is a few ponies for $400-600 it doesn't make a whole lot of sense does it? Especially if that gain is only in the upper RPM range. Before I get anyone to give me any money I'm gonna do a before and after dyno run.

If you can make a simple single header come down from the passenger side (2"-2.5") center between the clutchfork and the side wall to 3 bolt flange just at the frame I can get the mufflershot to do the rest.
Also need the plugplate for the drivers side manfold.

The design will be very simular to the ORS (I think its ORS) one for the 3.4.

Want to bring this back up, because I want to do this. But I was thinking
take the crossover off, cut the pipe and save the flanges, to weld a
"2 or "2 1/4 to the passenger side the shape of the existing crossover.
Have it bent on the drivers side back towards the fire wall, have y-pipe that is
placed on the existing down tube (of course the y-pipe is spliced into the down tube)
and weld a plate on to the flange where the crossover use to enter the drivers manifold
to block it of.

Thats the easy version, I would love to replace the drivers manifold with a
passenger one and go "2 1/4 for a down tube and splice in the new crossover,
bent same as above.

What do you think

Woody

Sounds like it would work. I finally said f'it and got the Downey headers (I was replacing my HG at the same time)

check out the marketplace I have my stock manifolds and a double p-side manifold set that I had modded with some block offs up for sale.

Good luck.

Mike

I should be getting my extra manifolds and crossover in the next couple weeks so I can finally get started on this.

direct bolt on huh?
well...with all these 3.0 owners on yota tech, the lower your price is, the more buyers you are likely to encounter...
i will definitely be watching this post to see your outcome..

Um, you might be watching for a while. Suprathepeg's last post in this thread was 6 years ago. His (her) last post on this forum was 2 years ago.

Searching is a great tool, but if you're interested in a conversation, you might want to check the dates of the postings.

This causes blown headgaskets, burnt valves, and a significant loss in hp.

The oem cross over also apparently has an expansion chamber in it....
I recently rebuilt my 3vze due to blown headgasket. Before motor was reinstalled I wrapped header tape around the crossover pipe in hopes of eliminating some heat off the back of the motor.

This would basicly be a Y-pipe and a block off plate for the stock manifolds. 2" to 2.25 with maybe an o2 bung. I still have to work out how I'm gonna build it but the design it pretty simple and it will get rid on the stock crossover.

I don't know how much power this will free up but it will deffinately free up some. On the 3vzfe its usually worth ~10hp with headers being worth less then 5. If enough people are interested I'll do mine and take it to the dyno to see what its worth.

Initially I'm thinking the cost will be $180-$200USD with true mandrel bends and a flex section to make installation easier. Not the cheepest I know but bolt on, cheeper then headers. and gets rid of the crossover gasses coming into the manifold and onto cyl 6. The more I can have made the cheeper each one gets I'd like to get it down to $150 if I can.

let me know if there is interest and I'll put together a group buy.
I would be interested

Now, almost 10 years ago. But who knows! He (she) might be still working on his (her) 4runner.
