Its been a terrible week. A winter blizzard rolled into town and it just so happened that when you mix a retarded semi driver and slippery roads, you get a wrecked truck. (the semi neglected to yield my right of way and cut me off as i travelled down the highway where i sort of T-boned his trailer between his axles.) His fault but still ty none the less especially considering how mint this truck was...

So heres my question for anyone whos been through this or is a bodyman out there.... Is it worth fixing? (93, 5spd, v6, 225 000kms, MINT before the accident both body 9/10 and mechanically 9/10.)

I am getting paid out by the insurance company but they told me that I could buy the wreck (they have deemed it "rebuildable") for around $1000 CAD. Keep in mind the truck was running after the accident, was leaking power steering fluid and the stereo momentarily cut out. So mechanically for sure it needs power steering pump most likely, and maybe battery or electrical work because the fuse boxes etc. are on the passenger side. All suspension components are OK. (wheel is still straight as an arrow)

As far as the body, look at the pictures. The frame did not make contact and most of the damage came from above (my hood went under the semi trailer) and keep in mind the speed of the accident was roughly 30 km/r by the time i slowed as best I could. It for sure needs a new passenger front fender, hood, valence around the windsheild and the passenger A-arm MAY be slightly bent ( i think this because the dash on the inside has been quarked out of place. The passenger door is toast.







If it will cost me >$5000 i probly wont do it....

Is there anything wrong with it structurally?
It looks like all you need is a door, fender, hood, and bumper..
You can tell if its bad if the front clip is not straight..

 

If you don't end up fixing it... I'll take your driver side front fender!

 

only thing I would be worried about would be the 'b' pillar and the door hinge area.

 

well kind of hard to tell with snow on it. but it does look like the cowl is pushed down and the a pillar is back. looks like there is a kink in the roof right behind the pass door.but if you do rebuild have a good bodyman square up the cab before you hang sheet metal.would be money well spent.or you could bring it to me and i will fix for you.its what i do for a living.btw post a side pic of the door to cab.

 

I have seen trucks hit harder rebuilt

It is hard to tell with just pictures sometimes.

Can you buy another truck in as good condition with the insurance plus some out of your own pocket.

Will it bother you driving a vehicle you know was in a crash.

Me I would have anything pulled that needed it hang the parts be good to go i care only that the mechanical condition is excellent

 

if you have the money and its fixable i would fix it, and save another yota

Fix it. That's a nice rig! It's only cosmetic body damage, isn't it?

 

You could always make a trail rig, like the post above me posted

 

Don't be such a sissy, get a used fender, and door, and rattle can 'em to match.. buff the paint, leave the dents and wheel it... Or your gonna feel like a bigger idiot making it look nice and then doing that kinda damage.

 

I say rebuild it. I'd be worried about the b pillar though. whats the inside of the door look like? new fender, hood... bumper looks fine, mirror looks fine. I'd rebuild my 4runner if this happened. have too much history together

It doesn't appear that he is really into it..
If the truck has sentimental value then i say fix it..

Keep in mind you are going to be looking for new body panels and then paint, and its all going to come down to the priceing in your area.

It doesn't look all that bad in my opinion, but i cannot say what it will cost.

 

Thanks for all your input guys! I bought the truck three weeks before this happened. My plan is/was to build a daily driver that I can wheel as I please when I head to the mountains. This was just my starting point. I am seriously considering the rebuild but I MIGHT just try and get into a 96-02 4runner instead. Then I dont have to do the 3.4 swap.....lol. And yes, 4xToys is a excellent resource to have if your a toyota lover!

i say buy the truck back and buy another truck while youre at it and then save up to fix it and wheel

 

Definitely buy the truck back. I do paint and body for a hobby (20yrs now). I have a 2wd 94 that had been a convertible that I made back into a hard top (yes, its a pickup). It wasn't all that hard for me, just time and patience.

 

$1000.00 bucks is a cheep buy back price .. I would absolutly buy it back .. pick up a cab from Mike @ 4Xtoys buy some of my http://toyotafiberglass.com fiberglass hi-clearance front fenders and box sides , toss on some 35's (no lift) you'd have a very sweet truck .. call yourself a builder !!


if you dont think you can do it , then you should be easly able to part it yourself for much more then a Grand
