Cranking issues

last time i had a starting issue that was easily solve with the help of you guys. well this time i have another issue and i really need help fast. okay, so i got the engine to fire and was trying to put the timing cover back on. had a little trouble with it and i had to stop for a week because of work. today was my chance to put it all back together and get her running apparently i got the timing cover back on (it was a pita) then i was turning the crank to get the distributor timing set. now it was at TDC to begin with but i revolutionize it to see if the timing would come up. well thats when it hits me. the crank wont crank back to TDC. i could crank it back and it would stop right before TDC. i thought it was valve issues so i release all my rockers still the same. i thought it was the oil pump. took it off still the same. it will not revolutionize completely. stops at TDC. i tried looking online for an answer and i just keep getting all these rediculious things. once again i need and welcome all suggestions. thanks

ps. i made sure the truck is in nuetral. 4spd manual.

Well, I hope your foray into the valve adjustments didn't result in a bent valve.
With all the rockers loose, are all the valve tips about the same height above the head?

all valve are similarly close. no bent valves. engine crank flawlessly before the timing cover was replaced. hydrolock can't be catching up to it at this point. it had oil in it before and it still rotates both clock wise and counter clock. it just stops right before top dead center both ways this is what i can't figure out. thanks though for your input.

similarly close does not mean correct. a valve protruding little more than a few 1/1000's of an inch can be impacted by a piston, particularly the larger intake valve.

need a picture of auto shifter

can someone post a picture or two of their shifter and surround if you have a center console, auto trans, 4x4.

If you have time from a few different angles and a good shot of how it meets the dash bezel under the radio.

Think if trying to swap this setup into a 92 but want to refresh my memory as to exactly how it looks and looking in windows at the mall gets you in trouble

my rockers are practically off the head. but if you insist and still think its the valve then i believe my only choice is to take it off and inspect the head. i really don't want to have to do something that shouldn't need to be done. so if i can get just a bit more suggestion i would like to attempt this last if possible. thanks though and again all suggestion welcome.
