cpe maf conversion

Hey all just recieved my truck back from CPE yesterday to drive and give my opinion on before they go any further aka spending more money in devlopment.I dont have any numbers to post yet as my truck is a auto and they couldnt get consistent readings to say that it made this much hp due to the trans wanting to down shift when they applied a load to it they have a eddy current dyno which they use for testing and tuning they can hold a consistant load to dial it in so they want me to drive it and give a opinion before they put more money out and take it to a dyno jet and have to pay foe dyno time. Let me say this the throttle response is greatly improved. going down the highway you barley have to touch the gas to accelerate ,wide open throttle from a standing hole shot the rear jumped alittle side ways when you put your foot in it when you driving and it kicks down you feel it pull hard. the proto pipe looks good the pipe looks like a 3.5
compaared to the small opening on the vane door that it had to open before
I know he said that it turned out more intense than they thought because the vafm I think Josh said they found out that it works on reverse logic programing. anyway seat of the pants it feels like it makes a good gain.
I will post pics today or tomorrow if I can figure out how to do that Also cant wait to test milage for improvements as he said the stock configuration is extremly rich

What are the before and after dyno numbers? what is the estimated cost for these improvements?

Personally, I like what I hear from your first reports and would be interested to see more!

So they got rid of the VAFM(toyota one anyways), and put a bigger pipe on. For the airflow control, do they have a flapper valve(kinda like in the throttle body) the entire size of the pipe?

Details man, details!!!

Exactly the same

That is the same exact setup as RBMC's new one, except his intake pipe is about a foot shorter than that with a heat shield around the filter.

I wish they would've made the maf more like stock vehicles, the fact thats its part of the pipe will cause someone problems if later they want a snorkel or forced induction.

except he is still running threw the stock vafm which has a little flapper that rotates to let the air in.which is very restrictive!

No No No

The setup that RBMC is running is exactly like your setup with a shorter pipe, they eliminated the VAFM. This setup is nothing new, the street ricers who race for pinks have been doing this for quite some time, with loads of success. I'm surprised it's takin' this long for someone to finally start adapting these kind of applications to something other than street racing vehicles.

One question why did they go with a conversion to an MAF as opposed to try to convert to something like speed density or MAP. I know they way those are structured they eliminate all possibilites of restriction, this just enlarges the restriction.

Not sure if this matters or not, but arent most speed density/MAP cars boosted? I havent seen any that werent, but I guess the only car Ive seen personally that used MAP to control fuel was my RX7

Most if not all Honda's run on map sensors the newer Hyundai's do as well.

I would deffinately go for a map if it were me. So simple which is exactly what I like. IIRC Megasquirt has a MAP built right in and is used on NA engines all the time.

Kinda off, but how hard would it be to fab this setup yourself? New intake, map/maf sensor, and some wiring, maybe a piggy back on top of all that? I could put together a kit for cheaper than $650. I want to do this conversion, but not for such an exhorbitant price, when i could fab it myself...in theory anyway...has anyone else had this feeling?

I've been toying with the same idea, but the reverse logic output of the vafm (5 to 0V) is raining on my parade. My understanding is that most maf and map type sensors run on a scale of 0-5V. So how do we go about inverting the voltage signal to ensure compatability with our factory ecu?
