cover on back of motor

On the back of my 3vz motor in my 94 pickup on the passenger side at about the cam level is a round metal cover held on with 2 10mm bolts. It appears to be leaking oil out the top. Is this some sort of a camshaft seal? Does anyone here know what it is or does? I will try to get a pic today...Thanks

Yes it is a seal , its cup shaped the valve cover sets on top of it , you really need to remove the valve cover to get it out clean it or replace it and do not put sealer around it seems like it wont seal good if you do and repace the valve cover gasket .

Do I need to get some kind of gasket to reseal it or just remove the valve cover, clean the cup thing and put it all back together? If I remove it will I leak any oil if the motor is off? Thanks

No it will not leak oil as long as the engine is off, the only gasket you will need is a valve cover gasket. Yes clean it up and reinstall it , it will be fine. Put some sealer in the corners of the valve cover gasket.
