cost for muffler & header install

i took the lc header and magnaflow muffler to a shop today and was quoted $300 for an hour to install. i understand that it's not all labour cost but still it seems excessive. what does it usually cost?

Got my headers and mufflers on my old work truck (f250 v10) installed for $50 at a little hole in the wall place. They'll do good work if you just keep an eye on em.

Seems high to me, but I haven't done anything like that in quite awhile. Need cat back redone whether it be OEM or aftermarket though. Keep putting it off.

Seems a little high, I think mine was $225, but they built exactly what I wanted, 2.25 aluminized with a lot of curves. I supplied the cat and muff. What kind of bends and tubing would they be using?

got everything on the truck today. not impressed. sounds like a civic with a tin can exhaust. they had my truck for 8+ hours and charged me $440 (taxes in) after giving me a $300 estimate. the power difference is minimal. All in all after dropping a grand, I would have been much better off getting myself a big screen TV.

anyone got a time machine i can borrow?

Yeah you got ripped bro. Shoulda done the header yourself too. Header on a 4banger = joke of an installation.

That's not entirely true.. You can break exhaust studs and do nasty things like that.. But even at a shop rate of $90/hr... That's ridiculous... TX has some consumer protection laws about being charged significantly off market.. Sheesh..
Course, they quoted you $300... so you knew something was coming.

I paid around $500 for all new exhaust.

I went with a stock manifold, new head pipe, magnaflow and all new piping. Stock cat tho

I did the manifold install myself. 2.25" piping.

I hate getting ripped. I always feel so poopy afterwards. Like, gee guy..you could have used some lube!

Months ago, my bumper broke off. I took to an out of the way welder working for himself. He's good...from past experience. He quoted me $80 for two hrs labor. Went back a couple days later and he fixed it. It only took him ONE hour, but still charged me $80. Poopy! That's twice the cost of the nearby business where I first went for a quote.

That's insane.
1.5 hours to install the header. $134.82
1.7 hours to build the exhaust system $152.80
$20 for custom exhaust pipe
$35 for custom tail pipe
$21 for 6 hangers

tax and enviro levy BS on top of that.

I don't mind paying the cash, but for what I got, I'm not very satisfied. I read from lots of people that a LC header combined with a flowmaster 40 gives a sound similar to a V8 so why does my LC header with an 18" magnaflow sound like a riced out civic?!?!? I got it in hopes of a quieter sound.

I'm interested in this too because I just got a deal on a Thorley header and am hopefully going to install that with a new 2.25" system in the next month or so. I'm concerned about which muffler to use to get a good tone but without the riced Civic aura..

That sucks on the install though bro. I'm gonna attempt mine myself.. At least do the header and back past the cat, then see if I need to take it somewhere to get the rest bent.

It's the Magnaflo. Mine sounds riced out too, when it's running. But hey it makes me feel all "cool" and "hip" when ever I would open it up.

It's the magnapoop muffler.

I got a LCE header, high flow cat and a flowmaster and my little 4 banger 85 sounds mean and has a low growl.

And if you've ever changed a header on a 4 banger and with the tight space to fit it...worth every bit of the pennies I paid for install along with my custom exhaust work.
