so i have a 1986 toyota with a 22r and the coolant level just keeps dropping. i will top it off and it slowly goes somewhere. theres no white smoke or anything so i dont think the headgasket is going. the engine was just rebuilt a couple thousand miles ago also.

and another thing is my heater doesnt get very hot. are these two related at all?? any help would be great. thankyou

 

Take each spark plug out and shoot some compressed air down each hole and see if any water splashes out.

 

I've got the same issue, do you smell coolant every once in a while? My issue was/is that the dang over flow bottle has a crack in it and when the rad/fluid gets up to temp (after topping it off cold) it deposits the extra coolant into the bottle and it leaks out. Took me months to find this out.... now all I need to do is seal the damn bottle.

yea, every once in awhile i smell it. i have to clean out my overflow cuz it was full of mud?? i dont know how. sometimes i hear it boiling in the radiator also.

 

u might possibly have a bad heater core. :/

 

I had the same problem. Turned out to be a small leak at the top of the radiator that would evaporate before it got to the bottom

 

thats what im afraid of haha those hard to fix/replace?

 

Pull the over flow bottle and just wash it out, I think it's 2 bolts that holds it in there. You might have a crack or it might be coming out the top.

I don't know much about the lack of heat although mine is the same way.... You and I might be chasing the same issues.

um well ive never put a heater core in a yota. i havent been workin on mine that long. but i do know they usually take several hours.
