Coolant leaking ?

Coolant leaking ?

I have an external leek. I replaced the water pump. ? new? No leaks until it gets warm?

1991 4runner 6,000 on complete rebuild. 3VZ-E engine. It looks to be leaking right by the water pump by the thermostat housing? I pulled the pump out and replace the gasket and checked the block surface and re siliconed the water pump to gasket. It only leaks when the engine is good and warmed up?

Any thought what to look for tonight?

P.S. the heater core pipe that runs under the intake has been bypassed with a hose.

Could the bypass housing gasket on the top front of the intake be the leak ?

No oil in coolant. No coolant in the oil.

Dose not over heat. It just drips out and steams when I stop.

Also not the oil cooler hose, pip, or thermostat

Mine is leaking in the same spot, except mine only leaks when it is sitting in the sun during the day and it hasn't been driven. I will have to check that heater core pipe on mine. Did you just reuse your waterpump gasket or use a new one? I am hoping to be able to tell on mine when I do the timing belt and waterpump.

New water pump and gasket, then a new gasket again.

Yes, I have. When I rebuild the top end, it leaked there at the idler bearing, at the sensor cluster on the back of the intake including the heater hose going to it, and the thermostat housing, and the throttle body, and my outta my ears. A trying few days that was.

One note, if it's leaking after the motor is warm, then it seems it would be after the thermostat allows more coolant flow and there's more pressure.

It looks to be coming from the right bottom side of the water pump. Could this be leaking from the top of the intake?

Yeah, it could be running down. But, alas, it's hard from my end to say....I can't see your motor clearly in my third eye.

i had 2 factory new water pumps leak immediately after install on my old 3.0. they both leaked from the weep hole, so the seals were bad from the factory. I have also experienced this with new honda factory waterpumps. I dont trust new pumps now until at least a week has passed without them leaking.

Well I guess I’m going to have to tear the cover off and pressure test the system and look for the leak.

Now I’m getting good at taking the front apart.

1 hour and 45 minuets from drain and R&R and fill. My local shop told me it would be 7 hours and $375.00 for the job.

either their thief’s or I’m able to skip a few steeps.

Oh man! I know what you mean. I got real good at tearing everything down (TB, plenum, hoses, etc.) to the intake manifold until I got everything good and sealed. That's including the timing cover to stop the idler pulley from leaking, but that only took one time. Are you sure it's not leaking from up top? The bypass hose under the plenum?

I found the leak, it was the hose on the front of the throttle body to the intake.

Glad you found it! Do you have any pics of it? Also, were you getting any coolant on top of the block?
